I grew up in Ft. Worth, son of a preacher, and headed to the oil patch after working my way through Eastern Michigan University. Navigating my way from the field into management, I eventually returned to complete my education at the Harvard Business School and Southern Methodist University.
After an illuminating New York experience in banking, I re-entered the energy industry C-Suite. For over thirty years, I have run public and private companies, branching out from traditional energy into cutting edge renewables, crypto currency banking and international trade; leading multinational public companies; turning around failing companies; and launching private enterprises. I have served on boards of public and private companies as well as foundations, and launched private companies and foundations.
Along the way, I became a voice for oil and gas industry reform, writing for the Huffington Post, Houston Chronicle and several blogs. I wrote "Disaster on the Horizon," a book about the deepwater well blowout and have appeared on national news shows for ABC, CBS, NBC, BBC, MSNBC, FOX, CBC, the Weather Channel, BNN and Al Jazeera.
I am a lifelong learner and continue a longstanding mindfulness practice. In recent years I have focused on helping others as they tackle new business opportunities, cope with personal and corporate change, manage transitions, and encourage strong intergenerational relationships.
My experiences in business and non-profit leadership from the ground up have given me a unique perspective and helped me hone a special talent for understanding complex problems, building teams and coaching people to achieve their highest potential.
An old Chinese poet once wrote, "Embrace the territory; treasure the road..." It's not the destination that's important - it's the journey that enriches your life. I believe life will be better if we take that perspective.
